Avalonia’s volunteers are our heart and soul! Despite the limitations of the pandemic, close to 150 volunteers donated over 6,000 hours to Avalonia in 2020. Consider some of the “jobs” that need to get done. Avalonia volunteers steward and protect over 4,500 acres on 110 parcels. We have added close to 1,700 acres in the past 10 years. As the acreage we steward grows, the need for active and committed volunteers becomes more important. Volunteering in the woods, on marshes, in forests – on trails and off – fighting invasive species, clearing trails, maintaining boundaries, posting signs, building bridges – our volunteers get out there and get it done. And, just as important is the work of managing the organization: serving on committees such as Stewardship, Acquisition, Communications, managing membership and finance, ensuring an active social media presence, writing grants, leading, and participating on one of our 8 town committees, planning and running events, and more.
We’re counting on you! Please get involved and help these beautiful preserves survive and thrive in the years to come.
To all of you who make Avalonia’s heart beat, thank you.
