Avalonia’s Top 5 Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are integral to Avalonia’s success, helping to protect natural spaces while strengthening connections within the community. Whether you prefer getting your hands dirty on the trails, shaping the organization’s future behind the scenes, or bringing people together through events, there’s a role for every interest and skill set. Here are five meaningful ways you can get involved and make a lasting impact.

1. Stewardship: Do you enjoy the challenge of bushes and briars and bugs and mud? Then stewardship is for you. Avalonia counts on volunteers to work on our preserves, including trail maintenance, removing invasive plants, walking and marking boundaries, and planting trees and grasses. We sometimes need to remove trees and build bridges as well. If you like to be out in nature, ensuring the land is healthy and preserved, join us to make it happen.

2. Standing Committees: Are you interested in organizational growth and good at reaching out and connecting? Then this is your spot. Avalonia has many standing committees, such as Communications, Acquisitions, Development, Governance. You can join one of these and get involved in the direction of the organization, helping us grow, expand, and stay focused on our strategic plan and mission.

3. Events: We love a party planner, a fundraising event planner, a speaker/education organizer. Is this you? Help us plan and execute community participation and fundraising events. Examples include ribbon cuttings for new preserves, volunteer fairs, town-specific partnerships, volunteer appreciation, and fundraising.

4. Town Committees: Are you rooted to your town, loving your home turf and want to use your energy locally?  If you want to focus on Avalonia’s preserves that are in your area, you can connect with (and maybe join) your town committee. This is often a combination of stewardship work on local preserves, town events, and partnership with local environmental organizations.

5. Office administration: Are you good at organizing, filing, scanning, and using a computer? Here’s your niche. Come to our office in Ledyard to help organize files, address and stuff envelopes, scan documents and maps, and provide general admin and tech support. We value our administrative volunteers too!

If you’re interested in one of these roles, send an email to avalonialc@yahoo.com or visit THIS LINK to sign up. Someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible!
