The Sun Shines on Volunteers at Copps Brook in Stonington

By Susan Hibbard

On September 29, 2026, the rain stopped and the sun came out, just in time to welcome a work party at Copps Brook Preserve in Stonington. The group, consisting of 11 volunteers from Ella T. Grasso Technical High School’s Environmental Technology Workshop as well as 2 additional volunteers from the Mystic Aquarium, broke into smaller teams to focus on specific tasks:

  • rebuilding the stone wall in the back of the paddock
  • clearing invasives on both sides of the stonewall along the road
  • weeding the parking lot berm
  • clearing fallen sticks and branches from the paddock perimeter
  • general trail maintenance on the preserve

The group was joined by Avalonia’s Stonington Town Committee members Beth Sullivan, Kathy Weinberger, John Swenarton, and Susan Hibbard. It was a good day for Copps Brook!
