The Results are in! Avalonia completes its first round of iNaturalist Bioblitzes!

As a part of our larger Biodiversity Monitoring Initiative, Avalonia held three inaugural Bioblitz events over the summer.

Between the Dorothy Davis Family Forest Preserve and the Benedict Benson Preserve, both in North Stonington and the Glemboski-Ous Preserve in Bozrah and Montville, Avalonia staff, interns, and volunteers made an impressive 1,044 observations, identifying 281 species and/or genera of plants, animals, and fungi!  Citizen science identifiers are still active in verifying some of the observations.

Not too shabby for our first go-around! This data will be used to inform our management plans and other stewardship decisions.  Stay tuned for possible late season bioblitz opportunities!
