Ribbon Cut on Glemboski-Ous Preserve: 159 Acres of Woodlands Now Open to Public

The Glemboski-Ous Preserve near Bozrah and Montville was officially opened on Aug. 9, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the first drive over the new bridge by an emergency vehicle.

Glemboski-Ous includes 159 acres of open woodlands and currently has about 3.5-miles of trails. The preserve features a new 40-foot-long aluminum bridge over Trading Cove Brook East Branch, as well as a handicapped-accessible parking lot and path made up of packed earth and dirt.

In addition to Dennis Main, the president of Avalonia Land Conservancy, other dignitaries spoke about the preserve during the grand opening, including Glenn Pianka, first selectman of Bozrah; Tim May, town council chairman of Montville; State Rep. Kevin Ryan; Ana Alfaro, from Eversource; Elanah Sherman, a member of Avalonia’s board of directors; and Lindsey LaFlash, president of the Bozrah Volunteer Fire Department.

Bertha Glemboski, whose family formerly owned the property, ceremoniously cut the ribbon to open the preserve. Later, members of the Bozrah Fire Department drove an ATV across the new bridge to highlight the access first responders now have in the heavily-wooded preserve.

The 1,980-pound bridge was built totally by volunteers over the course of two days. Thirteen volunteers spent June 18th building the actual bridge structure, screwing in large bolts to make the decking and foundations. Buoyed by ropes tied to nearby trees and a winch from an ATV, a team of 15 volunteers on July 19th pulled the bridge to its final resting place.

The Glemboski-Ous Preserve is located on South Road in Bozrah, one mile from Route 163. The parking lot is on South Road across from 102 South Road.
