It’s a banner year for monarch butterflies. Have you noticed?

Some good news! According to this article in the Westerly Sun by Cynthia Drummond, this year’s butterfly season has been a “banner year” for monarchs. To learn why the monarch’s numbers are up, and other species’ may (or may not) be down, read more here.

The above photo of an eastern tiger swallowtail,  one of the most familiar butterflies in the eastern United States, was taken by Bruce Fellman, an Avalonia volunteer and local naturalist. Bruce was interviewed by Ms. Drummond for the Westerly Sun article.
