With the dogwoods and spring wildflowers in bloom, and the birds singing and nesting, there’s no better time for a walk than mid-May. But Avalonia’s Hike and Seek program makes a good walk better, particularly for families who take part in this ongoing natural history scavenger hunt. For this family-friendly introduction to the Hike and Seek challenge, we’ll learn how to use our smart phones to access basic information about what a “refuge” is, or access more in-depth material for further study; a list of “targets” will direct us to search for, photograph, and share features like evidence of glaciers and great blue heron nests. Naturalist Bruce Fellman will help hikers search for clues.
