EarthFest CT Was the Bomb!
On Saturday, May 13th, Avalonia participated in the first EarthFest CT event held at McCook Point Park in Niantic. It was a free event with food trucks and various Earth Day activities for kids provided by conservation organizations, land trusts, and more. There were food trucks and live animals with our friends from DPNC.
At our booth, we offered a seed bomb activity for children. Avalonia’s office manager, Mary Anne Sherman, spearheaded the day’s activities. First, you roll out some clay. Next, you place a soil-seed mixture in the middle of each disc. Roll it all up in a ball, and then you wrap the finish “bomb” in gauze and tie it with a ribbon.
Many thanks to Jillian Harrington Perkins who had the seed bomb idea and taught everyone how to make them, Susan Zimmerman, Elanah Sherman, Dennis Main, and our East Lyme High School volunteers.
