CT Trails Day 2021

CT Trails Day is almost here!  On June 5 and June 6th, join us on the trails for CT Trails Day, which is part of nationwide celebration of America’s trails.  On the first weekend in June, people across the country will get outside to enjoy America’s open spaces and hike, walk, run, and bike the trails. CT Trails Day is organized by our friends at the CT Forest & Park Association each year and is supported by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Appalachian Mountain Club -CT Chapter, towns, and land trusts, including Avalonia!

You can participate by joining us on one of our official CT Trails Day hikes or you can get out on your own. Avalonia has trails in North Stonington, Stonington, Ledyard, Groton, Preston, and Griswold, so we hope you take the opportunity to check out a new trail.

Join Us on a Hike!

To celebrate CT Trails Day, Avalonia will be hosting two in-person walks on Saturday, June 5.  At 10:00 am, we will be walking the Pine Swamp Wildlife Corridor in Ledyard.  An important watershed in southeastern Connecticut, Pine Swamp is beautiful this time of year!   At 3:00 pm, we will be walking the Hoffman Evergreen Preserve in Stonington to hear about the progress on CT Sea Grant’s climate change research and the work to rebuild the forest into one that is healthier and climate-resilient.

Pre-registration is required – to register, please GO HERE.

Take the Avalonia Trails Day Selfie Challenge!

Throughout the weekend, we will also be holding a selfie challenge!  Just take a photo of yourself with the trail sign in the background and post it on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #cttrailsday and #myavalonia. For each photo you post, you will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card to the Engine Room in Mystic.  We will draw the winner on Monday, June 7th, so you have all weekend to get outside and enjoy our trails for a chance to win a gift card!

See you on the trails!
