Avalonia is the Recipient of a New Bench from Stonington and the Bags to Benches Program
By Susan Hibbard, Stonington Town Committee Chair
Avalonia’s Stonington Town Committee was recently the lucky recipient of a bench donation from the Town of Stonington. The bench has been situated at the Dodge Paddock/Beal Preserve, facing east towards Sandy Point, where we are confident it will get lots of use!
The Town of Stonington Solid Waste Department has a Plastic Film Recycling program, in partnership with Trex (the wood alternative lumber manufacturer). The Town accepts plastic film from its residents and then provides the film to Trex, which produces a wood alternative lumber from the plastic film, sawdust, and other recyclable materials.

Once a year, Stonington receives an outdoor bench for its participation in the recycling program. Stonington has previously placed benches at the community gardens in Pawcatuck and at Town Hall, and decided to donate this most recent bench to Avalonia.
We are very appreciative of their generous and thoughtful donation!
