A Tour of the Bond Property
On Saturday, March 15, a team from Avalonia, Girl Scout Troup 63034, Rep. Nick Gauthier from the 38th District, and others, gathered at the Bond Property. It was a great day, and Montville Girl Scout Troop 63034 Leader, Liz Preiss, shared her thoughts:
“Today’s tour of the Bond property was a day to be remembered!
The girls, their families, neighbors, and potential future Scouts all met and received a general history of the land from Steve Bond himself. Then, Toby & Chris from Avalonia took us on a walk where we saw where owls nest & roost, a beaver dam, hatched snake eggs, and just a portion of the beautiful landscape Montville has the once in a lifetime opportunity to help preserve.
The girls enjoyed the learning opportunity while also identifying possible Take Action projects and making community connections! Special recognition to Avalonia Board member, Elanah Sherman, and CT State Representative, Nick Gauthier, amongst others who I didn’t catch the names of because there were just so many people present! Our town really turned up for this cause and our girls.
We continued the day back at our GS room making a campfire craft and learning about The Leave No Trace Seven Principles presented by our Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 63416 – a great base for earning the Eco Friend badge! Lastly, the Juniors & Miss Bess set up their “Camp Oh-No!” so the girls could apply what they learned, identifying ways the site was not following LNT principles.
A core memory day for the sisterhood.”
