Chelsea Groton Savings Bank Funds Restoration of Native Trees and Shrubs at Parke Memorial Preserve in North Stonington

Stewardship staff and volunteers devoted nearly forty hours this past Saturday to restoring native trees and shrubs to a portion of the Parke Memorial Preserve in North Stonington. Funded in part by a grant from Chelsea Groton Savings Bank, the banks of the sluiceway were planted with sweetspire, nine bark, spice bush, willow, elderberry, and viburnum. Among the tree species planted in the more upland area were hornbeam, white oak, black gum, red maple, river birch, basswood, and sycamore. Continuing to manage the Japanese knotweed and eliminating woody vegetation along the dam on this site will remain a priority for stewardship.
Thank you to everyone who joined in on this effort! We love our volunteers!
