Repair Project Made Possible by Stonington Garden Club and Dominion Energy

By Susan Hibbard, Stonington Town Committee Chair

On November 12, 2025, Stonington Town Committee was able to undertake a long-awaited fencing repair project at Copps Brook Preserve on Al Harvey Road. While STC had previously received a grant from the Stonington Garden Club for rental equipment and the purchase of supplies and lumber, it was not until Dominion Energy (Millstone) sent us an able-bodied and hard-working team of 11 volunteers for the day that we got a boost in people-power to initiate the project.

The team was able to remove the middle fencing, replace all the rotten posts around the perimeter, remove the rotten rails, and repair the fencing that runs along the road. Wood was de-nailed and sorted into a recyclable lumber pile and another for disposal. Other smaller tasks were also accomplished. The remainder of the repairs will likely be scheduled for the spring. These repairs will maintain the pasture area in keeping with the scenic and historic appearance along the road.

The Dominion team included: Jennifer Rowland, Erin Stalnecker, Jimmy Ventura, Ben Cregger, Michael Laterreur, Mark Surprenant, Anthony Zerkow, Josh Wilkinson, Chloe Greensmith, Robert Devens, and Zach Withrow.  STC members also participating:  John Swenarton, Jim Friedlander, Mark Hibbard, and John Clarke.

We are grateful and appreciative of both the Stonington Garden Club and Dominion for their generosity and support. This project would not have happened without them!
