Mystic Aquarium Interns Help Tame the Jungle at Pequotsepos Brook Preserve
On August 7, 2025, the Stonington Town Committee (STC), in conjunction with the Mystic Aquarium, held a much-needed trail maintenance day at Pequotsepos Brook Preserve, covering both the “purple” and “yellow” trails and spurs. Several STC members, Kathy Weinberger, Mark Hibbard, and Susan Hibbard, were joined by 10 students and volunteers serving as interns at the Aquarium.
The jungle-like conditions at PBP were successfully beaten into a readily navigable trail. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as well as learning how to recognize poison ivy and ticks. The session was capped off in the parking area with refreshments provided by the Aquarium.
Mystic Aquarium volunteers included: Mallory Malz, Jordan Tavares, Alexandra Sinno, Nayara Aries, Edwidge Cenut, Joslynn Fields, DeAndre Leslie, Josephina Mbizi Mayuco, Anne, and Luna Nunez. Thanks to Mary Ellen Mateleska, STC member and Aquarium Director of Education and Conservation for facilitating this event.
