SUMMARY:Trail Maintenance and Invasive Plant Removal at Cedar Wood Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, November 13th from 9-12 at one of our northern gems\, the Cedar Wood Preserve and help us get it ready for a grand opening and ribbon cutting.  This nearly 50-acre former farm boasts a combination of open fields\, woodlands\, and wetlands. Our efforts will focus on removal of invasive plants such as autumn olive\, multiflora rose\, tree-of-heaven\, and bittersweet  In addition we will perform general trail maintenance.   No experience required!  On site training/guidance will be provided. \nThere is ample parking in the newly constructed parking/trailhead area\, located opposite 183 North Wawecus Hill Road in Norwich. Gloves and sturdy footwear are recommended.  Feel free to bring your favorite loppers\, clippers\, or other hand tools\, but we will also have a selection of tools available.  \n Your registration will allow us to better plan for the day! \nThank you!

SUMMARY:Cedar Wood Preserve - Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we cut the ribbon on Avalonia’s first preserve in Norwich\, the Cedar Wood Preserve\, across from 183 North Wawecus Hill Road. We will have cider and cookies to help us celebrate! The dedication will be held in the parking lot. \nImmediately after the ribbon cutting\, there will be a guided hike. All are welcome. \nParking: Parking will be available on the Preserve’s small lot\, on the road\, and at an adjoining property. Avalonia volunteers will be present to direct traffic. \nAccessibility notes\nCommunication access: For written material in alternative format or sign language interpretation\, please contact Terri Eickel at terri@avalonia.org \nParking: For the dedication\, the accessible space in the lot is reserved for a speaker (but a few other spaces may be available). If you park on the road\, expect to have to traverse the steep\, stony entrance to the lot (making drop-off in the lot advisable). Parking at the adjoining property has the advantage of a lawn leading directly to the dedication site (thus avoiding the steep parking lot entrance). \nTrails: Access to the trails currently has some obstructions\, including building materials for the forthcoming accessible boardwalk. The trails themselves are about five feet wide and relatively level\, but the grass surface presents accessibility challenges.
