Connecticut Botanical Society Field Trip to Tri-Town Preserve

The Connecticut Botanical Society will walk into the interior of this new 540-acre preserve and botanize a 30-acre interior fen (footing good in midsummer). Underlain by gabbro bedrock, an ancient metamorphic rock of volcanic origin, like traprock, low hills with rock outcrops have minerotrophic plants such as Allegheny vine and abundant hop hornbeam. This event has been cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns. Avalonia trails remain open, but visitors need to use caution, avoid large groups, and use good judgement when meeting other hikers.
