DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends of Groton’s Environment\,\nNow\, with only 25 days remaining until Nov. 6th when we vote on Ballot Initiative #2\, we’re inviting you to attend an information session to learn more about the reasons for\, and benefits of\, this amendment to Connecticut’s constitution.\nPlease\, mark your calendar and join us for an\n \n\nINFORMATION SESSION\nand Q & A\nGroton Town Hall Annex\n134 Groton Long Point Rd\, Groton\n7:00 – 8:30\, Thursday\, October 25th\nLed by Eric Hammerling\, Executive Director of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA)\nSponsored by Groton Conservation Advocates\n\n\n \nWe are thrilled that Eric found time in his packed schedule to speak to us about the amendment because\, in all honesty\, there is no one in the state more qualified to speak about this amendment initiative than Eric. Eric Hammerling has served as CFPA’s Executive Director since May 2008 and is the lead advocate for CFPA at the state legislature where he works primarily on forestry\, recreation\, education\, and trail-related policy issues. (The CFPA\, founded in 1895\, was the first private\, nonprofit\, conservation organization to be established in Connecticut “to develop public appreciation of the value of forests\, and of the urgent need for preserving and using them rightly.”) Recently\, Eric has been advocating tirelessly in support of the constitutional amendment to protect our state public beaches\, parks\, forests\, landmarks\, and wildlife management areas from being given away by the legislature without adequate public input. SUMMARY:Stonington Resiliency Plan Kick-Off Event
DESCRIPTION:The Town is excited to announce the public event to kick off its Municipal Coastal Resilience Plan on Thursday October 20th 6:00pm at Mystic Aquarium. The event will feature a children’s activity area\, food and interactive sessions to gather public feedback. \nThe focus will be on how Stonington prepares for sea level rise and extreme weather so our community continues to thrive for our children and future generations. The Town and Arup consulting team will present survey findings and other information. Stonington has a long and proud history of settlement dating back to 1649 and the Town is planning for it to thrive well into the future. Current changes in weather patterns and projected sea level rise present significant challenges for our coastal community and the Town is starting to plan in order to better understand the extent of risks we will face in the future and to identify things we can do to adapt and respond to these risks. This resiliency plan is about being wise\, planning ahead\, and protecting people\, places\, and investments. Broad public engagement in this resiliency planning will provide the best chances for success for our efforts and the best use of public and private resources. \nVIEW FLYER
